Barcelona Symphony renews Ludovic Morlot as Music Director for a further two seasons

8 October

It was announced today, 8 October, that the Barcelona Symphony is renewing Ludovic Morlot’s contract as Music Director for a further two seasons, to Summer 2028. Morlot took up the post in the 2022/23 season.

This season Morlot takes the Barcelona Symphony to the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Aix Easter Festival and to l’Auditorium in his home city of Lyon, on the back of their successes together last season at the Hamburg Elbphilharmonie and Stockholm Royal Concert Hall. They continue their acclaimed Ravel CD cycle and champion the best of the Catalan composers, both series on the orchestra’s own label. They will also repeat their hugely popular concert on the Beach, which was attended live by 20,000 people and watched online by a further 30,000 people. Repertoire at their home base at L’Auditori in Barcelona continues to be ambitious and eclectic, attracting a starry array of guest artists.

Morlot has a busy guesting career to complement his duties in Barcelona. Highlights of the current season include Boston Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Seattle Symphony (where he is Emeritus), BBC Philharmonic (where he is Associate Artist), also conducting Pelleas and Melisande at Dallas Opera and Les Troyens at Seattle Opera.
