Ludovic Morlot announced as Chief Conductor Designate of the Porto Symphony Casa da Música

Thursday 14 May

The Casa da Música (Porto) today announced the appointment of Ludovic Morlot as Chief Conductor Designate from 2027 of the Porto Symphony Orchestra at Casa da Música.

This will run concurrently with his position as Music Director of the Barcelona Symphony. His artistic relationship with the Orquestra Sinfónica do Porto Casa da Música began in 2025, through a series of particularly significant collaborations that were warmly received by both audiences and the musicians of the Orchestra.

Next week Ludovic will conduct the BBC Philharmonic (where he is Associate Artist) for an exciting programme at Factory International, pairing Jessie Montgomery’s Chemiluminescence and Samuel Adams’ No Such Spring with Stravinsky’s iconic ballet The Rite of Spring.

Then in early June he makes his debut with the Gothenburg Symphony, conducting Ravel’s Daphnis et Chloé.

Ludovic’s plans with Barcelona Symphony to round off the season include Brahms’ Violin Concerto with Augustin Hadelich coupled with Bartók’s Concerto for Orchestra, and Stravinsky’s Firebird coupled with Ravel’s one-act opera L’enfant et les sortilèges, which they then record as part of their ongoing Ravel CD cycle.
