Ludovic conducts national premiere of Oliver Knussen's 'Cleveland Pictures'

2 February

Tonight, Ludovic Morlot conducts the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra in the first of three concerts at L’Auditori this weekend.

Ludovic will open the evening with Frederic Mompou’s Suburbis (Suburbs), before conducting Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No.2 in G minor, with concertmaster Vlad Stanculeasa as soloist.

Next, Ludovic will conduct Debussy’s Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune, before leading the national premiere of Oliver Knussen’s Cleveland Pictures. Each movement of the Cleveland Pictures brilliantly translates a different item from the collection of the Cleveland Museum of Art into sound, and was composed between 2003-2009. Featuring seven projected movements, four exist complete, two exist as fully-orchestrated fragments, and one exists only as a 10-bar sketch in short score.

Ludovic will then close the evening with Ravel’s iconic Boléro before conducting the work again tomorrow, Saturday 3 February, and Sunday 4 February.
